This fixed income training course describes key segments of the fixed income markets, major market participants, and the instruments traded in the markets.  The structures of different fixed income instruments, and associated interest rate conventions, are examined. Special attention is focused on mortgage-backed securities and their role in recent financial market developments.  Time Value of Money is introduced as an important concept in the pricing and valuation of fixed income instruments.  Yield to maturity is defined, and the price risk associated with fixed income securities is explained.

  • Identify the major issuers of fixed income instruments
  • Describe the cash flow characteristics of different bond structures
  • Explain the relationship between bond yield and price
  • Understand the basic concepts of bond pricing and valuation
