This course provides an overview of the structure, organization and functioning of the capital markets, and the role of key participants in the marketplace. Emphasis is on the various types of equity and fixed income instruments, how they are quoted and traded, and their relationship to other segments of the markets such as derivative products. Distinctions are made among regulated exchanges and their regulators, electronic markets and over-the-counter trading.

  • Identify and describe key features of equity and bond instruments
  • Describe the roles of investors, borrowers, and financial intermediaries
  • Understand and utilize the language and terminology of the financial markets
  • Explain the difference between primary and secondary markets
